In just three short songs, 21 year-old producer Dylan Seals tackles some dynamic electronic ground on his EP “3″. The chilling arpeggios, beautiful vocal melodies and layered synths weaved into these beats echo, arc, and shimmer, calling to mind producers that project moody atmospheres in their work like Bonobo or Burial.

A few months (or several lifetimes ago), I wrote about graduating seniors wading through the difficulties of shaky job markets and general education hang-ups, all while undergoing the listless malaise senioritis entails. These were thoughts from a dark place, the feeling of a looming capitalist obelisk blotting out the sunny idealism liberal education outlined… or something.

On March 9, Buku opened its gates for the weekend to 17,500 attendees – 3,000 more than in previous years. This spike in festivalgoers was met by a complete redesign of the grounds that moved the main stage to a larger location, added a new stage and VIP viewing areas, and generally kept crowds from slowing to a halt from stage to stage.

With a lineup featuring big name artists and boasting authenticity, Buku Music & Art Project is preparing for what might be the biggest year yet for the eclectic riverside festival. Taking place March 9 to March 10 at Mardi Gras World, the headliners for this year include Bassnectar, SZA, Migos, MGMT and A Day to Remember, a diverse mix of genres ranging from hip-hop to electronic to metalcore.

Imagine leaving the confines of student housing to sign off on a bigger jail than you just got out of. Try idealizing your first legitimate apartment and the ways you’ll accent it, the place you’ll cohabitate with friends you’ve made, only to be plagued with rat infestations, roaches, broken pipes, inadequate heating/cooling units and shoddy appliances for a year.

The one year anniversary of Trump’s inauguration was met with feminine resistance and activism in downtown New Orleans and across the country. There’s something considerable to be said for a cult following packing out two of New Orleans’ more notable venues for four nights with not a trace of promotion of marketing to the general public. But then producer/electronic composer David Tipper is not an orthodox artist, sonically or in practice.

He asked to be called “Ryan” and wouldn’t give a last name. He talked about his change in fortune since coming to the Travelers Aid Society of New Orleans. He spoke softly, wearing dark sunglasses. “It’s been vigorous. A lot of the time I wanted to give up. If it was up to me, I would have given up,” Ryan said.

A lifelong member of Loyola’s community has left an immense donation to the university she loved so much. Today, Dec. 4, Loyola announced that following her death on March 19, 2017, Maedell Hoover Braud left a $10 million scholarship fund to directly benefit the financial aid of undergraduate and law students.

There is more to beignets than fried dough and sugar. The second annual Beignet Fest, founded by Sherwood and Amy Collins, features spinoffs on the iconic sweet treat while benefiting the Tres Doux Foundation. The Beignet Fest returns to City Park this Saturday, Dec. 2, encouraging donations for autism patients by showcasing New Orleans’ famous fried dessert: the beignet.
